What does being funded by the NSF GRFP mean to you?

NSF GRFP funds translate to increased creative potential and hence potential for success and happiness.A greater than average stipend coupled with no need to seek department funding enables a student to carefully choose an advisor while greatly enhancing their ability to dedicate their academic time and energy as thought best.

What has been the greatest advantage of winning the award?

Greatly increased probability of joining lab of choice since I did not require internal funding.

What advice do you have for a student who is not sure
about applying?

Scrutinize this decision in detail. Consider the many benefits of winning the award. Consider that even if it were not granted, finalizing an application is not only a good experience in itself but also yields numerous benefits. These benefits include a clearer understanding of your thoughts and a finalized application, with recommendation letters, that can be used for other fellowship applications or applications in general.
